Martin Brodeur made a glove save on Islanders rookie Kyle Okposo's penalty shot with 3:58 left in the first period to keep tonight's season opener tied 1-1 heading into the first intermission.

The Devils outshot the Islanders, 11-5. The Devils were 1-for-3 on the power play. The Isles were 1-for-1

Okposo was awarded the penalty shot after he was tripped by a diving Colin White while on a breakaway. Okposo had blocked White's shot at the left point in the Islanders' zone to start the break.

Okposo appeared to stumble a bit as he crossed the blue line, but regained his balance and tried to high glove side and Brodeur got his glove up to make the save.

This was the first time the Devils faced a penalty shot in their season opener. Brodeur has allowed only one goal in the six penalty shots he has faced in his career. The only one to beat him was Anaheim's Fredrik Olausson on Nov. 24, 1999. The Devils won that game, 2-1.
